Students seeking to transfer into the MEP from another
UNM department or program must get permission (signatures)
from their current department and the Manufacturing
Engineering Program. Admission to the MEP is not automatically
given.
International students on F-1 visas need permission
to engage in employment for curricular practical training
as provided in the regulations of the U.S. Immigration
and Naturalization Service.
Curricular Practical Training is employment in a job
related to the student's field of study that is either
required for all students completing the degree or for
which the student will be enrolled in an internship
or practicum course (such as Project) and receiving
academic credit. The training is intended to enhance
and supplement the formal, classroom education. The
International Advisor in the Office of International
Programs and Studies (OIPS) must authorize such employment.
Before this authorization can be granted, OIPS must
have a statement from the student's academic advisor
indicating that the training is required for completion
of the degree for all students or indicating the internship/practicum
course in which the student is enrolled. The advisor
must also indicate the date the student is expected
to complete all degree requirements. The date of completion
is not necessarily the end of the term or the graduation
date, but the date all requirements for the degree are
fulfilled.
The CPT FORM is available from OIPS, 2111 Mesa Vista
Hall, phone 505-277-4032. The CPT form MUST BE COMPLETED
AND SIGNED BY THE ACADEMIC ADVISOR OR OTHER AUTHORIZED
DEPARTMENT PERSONNEL, NOT BY THE STUDENT.
MEME and MEME/MBA candidates are expected to have completed
at least 520 hrs (3 months full time) of work in a manufacturing
setting, as an intern or employee, prior to graduation.
These requirement can be met while the student is in
residency or prior to admission to the program. All
work used to satisfy this requirement must be documented
in a letter from an employer, noting the period of work
and the manufacturing tasks performed.

A student may apply for an extension of the time allowed
to complete the required course work removing the "I"
grade. The request for extension may be obtained in
the Office of Records and Registration. For the student
who re-enrolls in residence, a one semester extension
may be granted. If an extension is granted, it is the
student's responsibility to remove the "I"
grade by the date indicated.

A Program of Studies for the Master's Degree form must
be completed, approved by the student, their advisor,
and the MEP Director, and then submitted to the Office
of Graduate Studies by the following deadlines: March
1 for Summer, July 1 for Fall, October 1 for Spring.
Early submission of this form, but after at least 12
hours of graduate courses in graduate status, is strongly
recommended. Failure to submit this form by the deadlines
will delay your graduation. The form must list all of
the courses, complete or to be completed, that will
be used to satisfy your degree requirements. Core courses
must be identified on the POS form. Thesis and Project
hours must also be listed. Course work that has been
counted toward a previous degree may not be counted
again in the Program of Studies for a master's degree.
Courses used for a master's degree may not be more than
7 years old at the time of graduation.
