-
Find company and explore potential
project. MEP can provide leads.
-
Discuss project with your Advisor
(COS Chairperson).
-
Formulate 4-member COS composition
in conjunction with Advisor. To formalize the COS,
file a Final Examination form, signed by each member
of the COS, via MEP to OGS.
-
Write project proposal (approximately
10 pages). Covers technical and ROI matters, and
schedule.
-
Iterate proposal only with your
advisor until advisor satisfied. Do not distribute
to your committee until your advisor tells you proposal
is ready for COS.
-
Distribute proposal to COS.
-
Set up proposal defense date. COS
must have minimum of 1 week to read proposal.
-
Defend proposal – prepare
powerpoint presentation (40 min.), schedule 1.5-2.0
hours. Make sure your A/V equipment is set up and
tested prior to the start of COS meeting.
-
Execute tasks in proposal, as revised
from proposal defense.
-
If deviating from plan, talk to
advisor, who will decide if COS meeting is needed.
-
Do work, and write project report.
-
Iterate final report with advisor
until advisor satisfied.
-
Distribute report to COS.
-
Set up project defense date, three
weeks prior to defense date. File Final Examination
form for approval of defense date, via MEP to OGS,
at least two weeks prior to defense date (this is
an OGS requirement). Notify departments of the defense
date, one week prior to defense date, for list-serve
posting. Note Fall, Spring and Summer deadlines
for project defense dates. COS must have minimum
of 1 week to read final report.
-
Determine administrative paperwork
needed (ITG form, POS form, COS final exam form)
– make sure it will be at the defense.
-
Defend project – prepare
PowerPoint presentation (40 min.). Make sure your
A/V equipment is set up and tested prior to the
start of COS meeting.
-
The COS may request modifications
to the COS report, before it is accepted and assigned
a grade. Modifications should be completed in the
semester of the defense. If the student is carrying
an INCOMPLETE grade for the PROJECT into the final
semester, then the defense should be given at least
two weeks prior to the normal deadlines, in order
to accommodate report modifications request by the
COS (see note below).
Keep in mind that you do not have a
project until your COS (not just advisor) says you have
a project. Consequently, any work you do prior to COS
approval of project plan is at risk.
Students may not graduate with
an Incomplete pending in any graduate courses. Those
resolving any Incomplete in their semester of graduation
must have the process completed (including the reporting
of the grade to the Office of the Registrar) by November
15 for Fall graduation, April 15 for Spring graduation
or July 15 for Summer graduation. Failure to complete
this process could result in the postponement of graduation
until the following semester. [per UNM Catalog]
